WEREBEARS |
THE KING'S OVERTHROW . as most stories and histories go, the werebears began with bloodshed and violence. although the lore whispers of a constant neutrality with humans out of the dear place the lumberjack had for his former home, that is simply a tale that mothers made for their cubs. the man called war on the village and through the power he had through the bear king, he decimated the formerly glorious landsbyen bjørnen. the terrifying reality of such brutality often has some werebears pitying the humans, who live under fear of another siege, because after the first rampage, the man became bloodthirsty and challenged the villages that had flanked the village of the bear. and though he did out humans, it was targeted towards those who thought him mad; he forced the change on them, and they in result hated him for taking away their humanity.
seven years later, it becomes seemingly peaceful after the old man begins to stop ravaging innocent peoples' homes, but it is soon to become a political war that he would not win. the men he forced to change have rallied and begun to incorporate their forces into driving the king out of existence if not the territory alone. the leader of this group becomes known as the black ghost, for he has a black bear as his shifting form, and though he seems just as bloodthirsty as the old king, his intentions were more politically inclined, such as fixing their relations with the humans. the rebellion slowly comes to a boil that soon erupts in the old king's face. the black ghost challenges the king and though it resulted in the black ghost losing an eye, the king is defeated and the reign of tyranny is over.
THE RISE AND FALL OF THE VAKTERS . the black ghost does not change the hierarchy of the werebears, which was a king-to-heir system. he adds a new rank though, for the members who fought by his side before the king's overthrow. he calls them 'the vakters', and the rank is only able to be given by the king of the werebears; it is highly honoured in his mind and they become almost literal palace dogs to him, treasured and respected but no less. after several years, the term 'vakter' became more insulting than respectful, and one bear, who was to become a vakter after saving the black ghost's life during an attack by humans, who had grown callous and arrogant under the peaceful rule of the black ghost, refused to accept the title.
dishonoured, the man was refused from ever entering the territory again. the man's family, however, became vengeful and waged figurative war on the king, supported by the other vakters. when the black ghost finally removed the title of vakter and 'dishonoured' the ones he had previous valued with his life, he also gave word that the man he exiled was allowed to return. but when the man was found, he was living a coastal mountain range which the king found extravagant and perfect. instead of bringing the man to the former land, the new king brought the entire race over to this new land and took his corner of ethea with pride and valor.
